This is really helpful, and I appreciate the post. However, this makes me wonder: Will Revit ever get a simplified script language, or the ability to record macros, etc? We really need a simpler way to do this. Architects and designers tend not to be programmer types. We just don't think that way.

Now, its true that some do, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

I understand the desire for this and it exists in other Autodesk products so its known to be helpful.  Ill record your comments in our internal request database.  Thank you.

I'll second that request.

A friend showed me how he was using AutoHotKey to automate things with Revit, but it was a bit of a convoluted process - and he had to account for Revit lags, because Revit doesn't register clicks very well while it's thinking.
